Lost and Found Pet Tips

FOUND

If you’ve FOUND a pet and are holding it while attempting to locate its owner:

  • Complete a “Found Report” and include a photo. You can also call Animal Care and Control to file a report over the phone at 509-888-7283 (888-SAVE)

  • Have the pet scanned for a microchip at any vet clinic or at the shelter

  • Ask around in your neighborhood. Someone may be looking for their pet and you may come across them or someone knows them and can connect you

  • Post posters/signs. Most lost pets are within 1,000 feet of home

  • Craigslist.org, Nextdoor, and Wenatchee World all have free found ads

  • Post in one of the Lost And Found groups on Facebook

  • Once the owner has been located contact WVACC or Wenatchee Valley Humane Society to cancel the “Found Report”

  • If you can no longer hold on to the pet, found domestic animals from Chelan or Douglas County can be brought to WVHS

lost

If you’ve LOST a pet:

  • Don’t assume your missing companion will be back in a day or two, has been stolen, or has “gone off to die.” Start searching as soon as you realize they are missing! Pets tend to be territorial and often keep within 1,000 feet of home

  • Complete a “Lost Report” and include a photo. You can also call Animal Care and Control to file a report over the phone at 509-888-7283 (888-SAVE).

  • Look under porches and call out. You may need to do this for multiple days; scared pets can stay hidden until they calm down or get hungry enough to come out from hiding

  • Post posters/signs and talk to neighbors to see if your pet has been seen

  • Craigslist.org, Nextdoor, and Wenatchee World all have free found ads

  • Post in one of the Lost And Found groups on Facebook

  • Visit Wenatchee Valley Humane Society’s website to view photos of found pets and visit the shelter, every 2-3 days, to view found pets in person

  • Once you pet has been found contact WVACC or WVHS to cancel the “Lost Report”
