"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would have it no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan."

— Irving Townsend

end of life euthanasia

Perhaps the kindest thing you can do for an animal that is terminally ill, behaviorally unwell, aged or so severely injured that they will never lead a normal life, is to induce his or her death quietly and humanely through euthanasia.

Euthanasia is accomplished by injection of a death-inducing drug. Our staff may first administer a tranquilizer to relax your pet. Following the injection, your pet will immediately go into a quiet and irreversible deep unconsciousness. Death will come quickly and painlessly. Euthanasia Appointments are required.

Guardians releasing an animal for euthanasia service should be prepared to provide proof of ownership, supporting information on medical or behavioral conditions, and personal identification. Please note: We do not euthanize healthy or treatable pets.

We ask that End of Life Services be scheduled by appointment to provide the most compassionate service.

If you wish to be with your pet during euthanasia, we recommend contacting your pet’s primary veterinarian to ask about this service.

End-of-life euthanasia requests for medical reasons are subject to approval by staff and are available by appointment only. There may be times when we do not have enough information to approve euthanasia. We may require reviewing current medical records before deciding, so we recommend you bring a copy of your pet’s medical history.

We offer medical euthanasia at our veterinary hospital by appointment only Monday – Friday.

Behavioral euthanasia is only offered at our community veterinary hospital. All end-of-life euthanasia requests due to or involving behavioral concerns go through a review process before any services are offered. The first step in requesting behavioral euthanasia is to fill out a pet profile to provide background information on your pet.

A certified technician performs end-of-life services, and the owner is not present. If you want to be present with your pet, we recommend an appointment with their primary veterinarian. End-of-life service fees include the procedure and general interment for your pet’s remains.

  • Dogs: $150

  • Cats: $125

  • Small Companion Animals: $125

  • Behavior Euthanasia Appointments must be done with our veterinarian. Behavioral euthanasia includes an exam and sedation: $250

We do not offer cremation services. If you wish to have your pet cremated, we recommend coordinating with Columbia Pet Services, which can come to our facility to receive your pet’s remains. Contact: Columbia Pet Services to make arrangements for your pets remains.
