WENATCHEE- As Wenatchee Valley Humane Society (WVHS) prepares to host its annual fundraising event on February 15, 2020, it is calling for community members to nominate their pets for ‘The Pawscars.’

The fundraiser, having featured a live auction for the past few years, is getting a face lift. The new format will still feature a raffle, silent auction and dinner, but will replace the live auction of past years with a red carpet, Oscar-themed awards gala, aptly named ‘The Pawscars,’ recognizing pets in the Wenatchee Valley.” Presented by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, The Pawscars will be hosted by local magician and comedian, Jason Sims. WVHS staff hopes the format change will provide community members with more opportunities to participate in the event, even if they can’t attend.

“Our large fundraiser has evolved over time from a wine event, to an auction and now to an awards gala,” said Dawn Davies, WVHS Executive Director. “It was time for a change and we are excited to involve community members, and their pets, in this event.”

WVHS is now accepting Pawscar nominations through its website, and it encourages community members to nominate their pets, for a $25 nomination fee, in one of six categories: Most Dramatic, Best Action Sequence, Best Comedic Performance, Most Promising Newcomer, Best Hair and Best Costume.  Category sponsors will select three finalists in each category.  Pawscar attendees will have the final vote, selecting a winner for each category, live at the event.

Pet owners can also nominate their pet for the People’s Choice Award, featuring a pay-per-vote type of voting structure, where the winner will be determined by most votes.

Pawscar winners will receive a coveted Pawscar trophy and gift card to Firehouse Petshop and Grooming.

For more Pawscar Awards information, or to nominate a pet, visit www.wenatcheehumane.org/pawscars.

Tickets to the awards gala are also available, for $65 per person, at www.wenatcheehumane.org/gala20, by phone at 509-662-9577 or in person at 1474 S. Wenatchee Ave., in Wenatchee.

All proceeds from The Pawscar Awards Gala will benefit the nearly 5,000 animals cared for annually by WVHS.
