The Wenatchee Valley Humane Society opens!
|
|
Shelter opens: It wasn’t a typical ribbon-cutting ceremony. Fire Marshal Wes Hensley, building project chairman for the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society, and Humane officer Roger Hockett watch as this frisky canine gnawed a ribbon on the doorway of the society’s new animal shelter on South Wenatchee Avenue. The facility was officially dedicated August 15, 1976.

The Wenatchee Valley Humane Society was founded in 1967 by a group of determined women (private citizens) that recognized and wanted to care for lost, abandoned and stray animals in our community and provide them chance for new homes.
The Wenatchee Valley Humane Society was incorporated on January 27, 1967. The group convinced the City of Wenatchee to allow them to take over the old city pound on Worthen Avenue and Animal Control in 1974. Because the conditions were overcrowded Gwyneth and Bruce Mitchell donated orchard land and our current shelter was built and opened in 1976. Soon the Humane Society discovered we needed more dog kennels and added on to the building in 1980.
In June of 2003, the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society opened Club Pet Boarding & Grooming. Club Pet is a boarding and grooming facility is owned and operated by the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society. All revenues generated by Club Pet are used to support the Humane Society’s orphaned pets, on-going programs and future goals. Club Pet’s mission is to provide a fun, safe and caring environment for your owned pets while you are away.
Now in 2008 we are moving in the direction to build a new facility as we have outgrown our current shelter. We look forward to continuing to grow and help the animals that depend on us in our community.
The Wenatchee Valley Humane Society is a private non-profit organization and our mission is to serve the community through education, protection and pet adoptions. We continue our mission by taking care of displaced pets, rescuing injured and lost animals, continuing our spay/neuter program, investigating cruelties and finding homes for the orphaned animals.
The Wenatchee Valley Humane Society is governed by a Board of Directors of private citizens elected by voting members of the Humane Society. The Board of Directors works with the Executive Director to ensure we meet our mission statement and work towards future goals of the Humane Society.
The Wenatchee Valley Humane Society is a 501C3 organization, your donation(s) is tax deductible. We are an independent shelter, meaning we receive no outside support or funding from other local or national organizations and that we rely on donations and support from our local community. If you would like to volunteer, donate or more information on how you can help us, please email or call (509) 662-9577.
