ANIMAL ORDINANCES TO CONSIDER

Please note: Chelan County consists of an Urban Growth Area (UGA) and outside the UGA. Ordinances (and responding parties) vary slightly.

The following are some of the basic animal control ordinances within the UGA of Chelan County:

Pet owners are required to provide animals with necessary food, water, shelter, sanitation, space, and medical attention, if needed.

Leash law applies when off your own property (by leash or under voice control). Note: streets and sidewalks are public property. Wenatchee Valley Animal Care and Control officers handle these calls.

Barking and whining habitually throughout the day or night is not allowed. The Chelan County Sheriff Office handles these calls.

Feces must be cleaned if the smell is offensive.

Defecating on public property. You are required to clean up all dog feces that your dog(s) produces while off your property. Carry plastic bags at all times and dispose of in a proper waste container.

Licensing your dog is required annually, at age 4 months and up. Dog licenses expire one year from the month of purchase. Please renew before expiration date to avoid a late fee. Licenses are obtained through the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society during regular business hours. Click here for licensing information & costs.

Cats are allowed to roam the neighborhood but your neighbors have the right to insist on your cats stay off their property if trespassing or causing damage.

Rabies vaccinations for all animals must be kept current.

School grounds are off limits to dogs at all times. Wenatchee Valley Animal Care and Control officers handle these calls.

Licensing your dog is not required. However, licensing helps lost pets return home faster and often times without the need of intake, so it is still encouraged.
